Blogmas Day 5: My birthday - what I learnt at 21

Image
It was my twenty-second birthday yesterday. I'm 22. So much has happened this past year of being 21. I was living away from home in a student accommodation, absolutely miserable at uni but determined that being a nurse was my future as I came in my 21st year. It's been such a valuable life lesson -the whole year of being 21, so I wanted to talk about some of the things I've learnt/experienced being in my early twenties. Without being too sentimental because I need to keep that for my end of year posts. So being 21, it's a horrible age because you really are setting up your foundations for "who you want to be when you grow up", it feels like when you're 19 you can still be experimenting with what you like and don't like, you can party and be irresponsible and live off your parents and be a lot more chill. Your early twenties seem more rushed in the sense that there is added pressure to take up more responsibilities. It's okay to not know what you...

Blogmas Day 4: A festive self care routine

Image
Christmas is well known as one of the most stressful times of the year, the workplace seems to get much more intense, the traffic is absolute madness, the weather just seems stressful with its' slippy roads, heavy rain, and it being so cold it's always mad dashes to and from where you need to be. And that's before the actual stresses of Christmas, the food shop, the gifts for everyone, the expense of everything, the kids being off school... Sometimes Christmas can be so stressful that it can lose its magic, and the enjoyment of the season gets lost. I did write a post on little things I do to manage my time at Christmas a few years ago. That post can be found 'here '. This time I wanted to write a little post on getting into the Christmas spirit via a festive self care evening, which I think is an important thing to do. Obviously self care is an extremely important factor to incorporate into your life, more so during this time of the year where, like mentioned, it ...

Blogmas Day 3: My goals over December

Image
In September I did a list of all the things I wanted to do in autumn. I really liked doing it, and actually it gave me a guide for when I had a free day, to go back to that post and do something I knew I wanted to do. So as Christmas is such a busy period, I thought I'd do the same so I can come back and remember a few of the things I wanted to do this holiday season. I don't know how much free time I'll have this December due to starting full time work, but this is my Christmas goals/bucketlist: - Go to a Christmas market. I love Christmas markets, they're my favourite days out, I went to one on my 19th birthday and it was one of my favourite days ever. - Ice skate. I know, I have terrible luck when it comes to ice skating (after smashing my two front teeth last time) but I love to go ice skating, I'm not actually too bad at it and I started learning to skate backwards last time! - Have a gingerbread house contest. I have wanted to do this for years and I d...

Blogmas Day 2: Film Review - Last Christmas

Image
I'd been really looking forward to seeing this film, since the first trailer. I'm such a sucker for rom coms, especially Christmas rom coms. I'm also a fan of George Michael and Wham, and a fan of Emila Clarke. It was a film that couldn't go wrong for me really. source We went to go see the film after our city did their Christmas lights switch on, I wanted to make a day of it and have a really nice, Christmassy, festive, amazing day.  Coming out of the cinema later that night left me feeling so enlightened and inspired I knew I had to write up a review. I know the film has been out a while now, but I thought this would make a perfect Blogmas post so I had to hold off posting it, this review is more of me talking about what the film did for me and how it impacted me in such a great way. This post also will not contain any spoilers, but I will be talking about themes within the film. The trailer actually gave nothing away about the plot, so if you want the film t...

Blogmas Day 1: All the advent calendars you NEED

Image
It's the first of December! Welcome to Blogmas. I'm dedicating so much of my time this month to really make sure I get a post out every day, I love doing Christmas themed posts and this year I've really planned out some exciting ones I can't wait to get posted. But today we're starting with a December 1st tradition. It is not the start of December unless you're cracking open a cardboard door of an advent calendar for the first of many treats counting you down to Christmas. Over the past few years advent calendars have broadened out from the usual tacky chocolate pieces to beauty ones, jewellery, candles, alcohol themed calendars... and the list gets longer and longer every year. This year I've compiled a few of these "alternative" advent calendar that caught my attention, and wow there are some interesting ones out there. I kinda want them all. Starting with a vegan chocolate advent calendar, "Waitrose" do this fairly cheap one, as t...

The elephant in the room - I'm single now

This year has been one hell of a year. I'm starting a whole project and posting lots of content in the new year based around self development, my 2019, and my mental health. But I feel that there is a huge elephant in the room that has to be addressed. Because tip toeing around it whilst trying to talk openly about my mental health and this past year, isn't really working. Everything leads back to the elephant. Because that's where my epiphany happened. More on that soon. So here goes. 2019 was the worst year of my life. But I feel like it's unfair to say that because I spent 2019 making amazing memories with someone I love very dearly. And I was happy then. Or so I thought. I'm not saying I wasn't happy with my boyfriend because I most definitely was. But I somewhat used him in the way American's use duck tape -a temporary fix for something that actually needs some serious TLC. Please note, I am not saying the relationship was fake. I had just ent...

Vogue Parody 73 Questions tag

Image
I was tagged to do the 'Vogue parody 73 questions challenge', based off of the 73 questions Vogue do with celebrities on YouTube. I love doing things like this so a massive thank you to "Leah"  for tagging me to do this, and "Emily" for starting it. The rules are to link the post back to Emily's original post, answer the questions and tag others to do the same. Emily's original post is "here" So, here are the questions: 1. What is your usual Starbucks order? This time of year it is the specials, so the Christmas drinks or previously a pumpkin spiced latte which is my favourite Starbucks drink. Aside from that my usual go to coffee at the moment is a chai latte with a shot of coffee. 2. What does your work station look like? I write most of my blog posts in my bed, or more recently I have been writing in a bar or coffee shop I like. 3. Favourite food? Breakfast food. I love going out for breakfast dates for avo-toas...
